2025 has certainly been a year for the history books and as the year comes to an close, let’s take a look at the top 5 biggest moments in football in 2025.
5. Harry Kane ends his trophy drought.
In the summer of 2023, it was time for Harry Kane to depart Tottenham Hotspur after a record breaking, decade plus spell in North London and it’s safe to say his time at Bayern has been nothing short of dominant. In the 24/25 campaign Kane bagged a whopping 41 goals in all competitions eventually leading to a maiden major trophy win for the England captain. It took one more year than anticipated but the Harry Kane trophy hoo-doo is no longer.
4. Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool on a free transfer.
The 2025 summer transfer window saw Liverpool vice-captain and boyhood red Trent Alexander-Arnold depart Anfield for a dream move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. This news was devastating to Liverpool fans not only because of his fantastic 24/25 season where he proved pivotal to Liverpool’s Premier League title win but due to the fact that this was someone who looked destined to be a red for life, in the end though, playing alongside Kylian Mbappe and fellow England teammate Jude Bellingham was simply too hard to pass up.
3. Napoli rise again through the emergence of Scott McTominay.
After Napoli’s drought breaking Serie A title win in the 22/23 season things would eventually become turbulent to say the least. Following the loss of manager Luciano Spaletti to the Italian national side Napoli were simply in no mans land and in desperate need of an identity. Enter Antonio Conte, a man who won a three peat of Serie A titles in 2012,13 and 14 with Juventus as well as the 21/22 title with Inter Milan, this was a manager that knew what it took to win in Italy. Conte would bring in Romelu Lukaku who was pivotal in the Inter Milan title win as well as Manchester United outcast Scott McTominay who took to the Serie A like nobody expected him to, becoming something of a cult hero en route to Napoli taking out the 24/25 Serie A title.
2. The Alexander Isak saga and Liverpool’s record breaking transfer window.
After winning the 24/25 Premier League, Liverpool would double down spending over 400 million pounds on the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. They would also break the British record transfer fee by signing Florian Wirtz but the thing that got everybody talking was when the reds world break the British record transfer fee again by signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle on deadline day after skipping Newcastle training sessions and practically forcing a move to Anfield leaving Arne Slot with a world class squad that has certainly been a difficult task to manage.
1. PSG’s emphatic Champions League victory and Ousmane Dembele’s Balon D’or
When PSG were taken over by their Qatari owners the goal was simple, win the Champions League, and, after years of superstar teams falling short, they finally got it done in taking out the 24/25 Champions League title in style beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final. This win solidified PSG as a true European giant under the expert managerial work of Luis Enrique and his young technically gifted squad including Frenchman Ousmane Dembele who some would say fulfilled his prophecy by winning the 2025 Balon D’or in what was a treble winning season for PSG who also took home Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France.
